What Is a High-Stability Oscillator?

Anything holding tighter than one part per million across temperature, aging, and vibration earns the name high-stability oscillator, and the best grades go a thousand times finer. Three error sources matter: drift with temperature, aging over months and years, and short-term instability measured as phase noise. Aging is often the one that surprises a program, since a part meeting specification at delivery can wander after two years in the field. Vibration adds a fourth, quantified as g-sensitivity and stated in ppb per G. Electronic warfare, telecom holdover, and deep space links all specify against those four numbers. No single technology wins across every axis, which is why the right choice depends upon the dominant error in a given system.

Our range reaches ±0.005 ppm with compensated parts and ±0.05 ppb from oven-controlled builds, covering most of what gets called a high-stability oscillator. Each of our three ranges answers a different one of those error sources
