What Is a Crystal Oscillator?
A quartz element cut to a precise thickness vibrates at a fixed rate, and a crystal oscillator converts that movement into a usable clock signal. Frequency accuracy holds within a stated tolerance over temperature, voltage, and time, expressed in parts per million or billion. Data centers, telecom gear, navigation receivers, and industrial controllers depend on that reference holding steady under vibration.
Which Crystal Oscillator Fits Your Application?
Stability requirement, operating temperature, and whether the frequency must be tuned in circuit determine the right crystal oscillator. Three variants cover most designs, each trading power, size, and cost against how tightly the frequency holds.
● OCXO parts hold the crystal in a temperature-controlled oven for the tightest stability available, down to parts per billion.
