TCXO
A TCXO holds frequency accuracy as a board heats and cools, which most designs need long before an oven becomes justifiable. MV Electronics tests each temperature-compensated crystal oscillator against its stated grade before release, then ships nationwide. Temperature-compensated crystal oscillators offer a level of temperature stability that cannot be attained using XOs or VCXOs. By correcting for changes as a function of temperature, TCXOs provide excellent stability and low phase noise, enabling communications through cell phones, GPS, and wireless modules.

What Is a TCXO (Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator)?
Compensation circuitry measures the ambient temperature and applies a correcting voltage, which is how a TCXO keeps frequency inside a tight tolerance without an oven. Standard grades hold ±2.0 parts per million, and the tightest builds reach ±0.005. Power draw stays low and there is no warm-up delay, which suits battery equipment and fast startup. Short-term stability stays good enough for GPS receivers and base station equipment to hold lock. Handheld terminals, asset trackers, and bench instruments all depend on that correction. Cost and board area stay well below what an oven-based part demands.
